Membership Guidelines

 
ACTIVE MEMBER
 
A. Membership Eligibility – All applicants must devote at least 90% of his/her professional time to pediatric surgery.
Geographic – The applicant must currently practice pediatric surgery in a country bordering the Pacific Ocean (Canadian and United States applicants must practice in or west of the Rocky Mountain area), and must have done so continuously for a minimum of one year at the time of application. He/she must continue to practice within these areas in order to become a member.
Invited – A board member may invite an application from a pediatric surgeon who meets all requirements for membership except the geographic requirement. Following the completion of pediatric surgical training, he/she must have attended at least three PAPS meetings within the preceding ten-year period, and must have been an active participant in those meetings. While not required, the board will consider persons who have trained in the Pacific area more favorably.
B. The Application Process:
1. Any member, by letter to the Secretary, may sponsor a candidate for geographic membership
2. A board member must sponsor applicants for invited membership.
3. The application form may be obtained from the PAPS website or from the secretary.
4. The completed application and accompanying documentation must be submitted to the secretary by April 15 th to be considered at the May Board meeting.
5. The application must be accompanied by the following:
a. Curriculum Vitae
b. Certification of training from his/her training director (if possible), of the current training director.
c. A letter from the sponsoring active member of PAPS.
d. Supporting letters from two active members of PAPS.
e. Invited member applicants must list the PAPS meetings attended (following completion of training) in the preceding ten years.
C. Election to Membership:
1. Candidates must first be approved by the Board of Directors at the Annual Meeting, and must then be elected by a membership vote.
2. Membership for successful candidates begins on September 1 st of the year in which they are elected.
 
PHILIP KING MEMBER
1. Spouses of deceased PAPS members are encouraged to apply for this membership category.
2. The deceased member must have been in good standing at the time of his/her death.
3. Members in this category may attend the Annual Meeting at an Accompanying Person's fee and receive the mailings of the organization.
4. This is a non-dues paying, non-voting social membership category.
5. Application is by a letter to the secretary.
6. Membership approval is by the Board of Directors. No membership vote is required.
